The Minoan Eruption and its Effects

The catastrophic Minoan eruption wiped out the Bronze-Age settlement on Santorini and buried it under a thick layer of ash. For more than 3,600 years it lay hidden and forgotten under a shroud of white pumice. Not only Santorini but also the neighboring islands and Anatolia were affected by the powerful eruption. Ash, poisonous gases, floating pumice, and floods produced by tsunamis inflicted damage on large parts of the Aegean region.
